Quote template for music producers
Start by finding out what the artist actually needs. Some want a finished, mastered track from a voice memo. Others have a demo and want a mix. Quote each stage separately: production, recording, mixing, mastering. That way the artist can take the mix to someone else for mastering without a fight over what the fee covered.
Then put the business terms in the quote: how many revisions per stage, whether stems are delivered, who pays session players and studio time, what credit you get, and whether you take points or a royalty share. Samples belong here too. If the track uses a sample, someone has to clear it, and an uncleared sample can stop a release.

What a music producer's quote should spell out
- Number of tracks and the stages included for each: production, recording, mixing, mastering.
- Revision rounds per stage, and the price of extra rounds.
- Deliverables: stereo master, instrumental, stems, formats.
- Session musicians, vocalists and studio hire, and who pays them.
- Credit wording and any royalty or publishing share, to be confirmed in a split sheet.
- Sample use and who is responsible for clearance.
Questions music producers ask
How many mix revisions should a music producer include?
Two or three per track is common. Ask for revisions as a single list per round, not a stream of messages, and price further rounds per revision so the track can actually be finished.
Do music producers get royalties?
Often, as points on the master and sometimes a share of the publishing if they co-wrote. It varies by deal. Agree it in writing before release, and note it in the quote so the fee is not mistaken for a full buyout.
Who clears samples, the producer or the artist?
Whoever the agreement says. Usually the artist or label pays for clearance, and the producer has to disclose every sample used. Put that in the quote, and avoid uncleared samples on anything going to release.
