Compress PDF
Make a PDF small enough to attach to an email or upload to a client portal. Choose how hard to compress, then download the smaller file.
Your files never leave your computer. They are processed in this browser tab.
How to use it
- Drop the PDF on the box, or tap it to pick the file.
- Pick Light, Balanced or Strong. Balanced suits most proposals, decks and portfolios.
- Press Compress, then download the smaller PDF. If it did not get smaller, keep your original.
Free, no account. The page loads once, then the work happens in your browser. We don't receive the file, its name or anything in it.
Questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened by this browser tab and processed on your computer. There is no upload step, so we never see the file or its name, and closing the tab throws the work away.
How does it make the PDF smaller?
Each page is redrawn as an image at a lower resolution and saved as JPEG, then the pages are put back together at their original size. It works best on PDFs full of photos, scans and renders.
Will the text still be selectable?
No. After compression every page is a picture, so text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links stop working. For a contract or an invoice the client needs to search, send the original or use Light.
Why is my compressed PDF not smaller?
A PDF that is mostly text is already small, and turning it into images can make it bigger. The tool tells you when that happens. In that case keep the original.
What size can a PDF be to email it?
Gmail and Outlook.com stop attachments at 20 to 25 MB, and some company mail servers stop at 10 MB. Under 10 MB is the safe target.
