A Function Point alternative for small studios
Function Point is agency management software for advertising, design and communications agencies, built around jobs, timesheets and profitability. OIO is project management for small studios: projects, tasks, files, freelancers and the client in one place, with the quote and the invoice on the same project. If you run a studio of two to fifteen people and want to start today without an onboarding project, this is the comparison.
What Function Point is good at
Function Point is built for how agencies run jobs. Campaign and project hierarchies, Gantt charts with task dependencies, kanban boards, estimates and proposals with workback schedules, time tracking, resource forecasting by role and by person, batch invoicing and retainers, and profitability reports by client, project and service. QuickBooks integration and BI reporting come on its Optimize plan.
Where it gets heavy for a small studio
- It is sold per user and its pricing page lists no free plan or trial. You book a demo, and new customers pay an onboarding fee.
- It is designed around the agency job and the timesheet. A small studio that quotes a fixed price and does not log hours uses a fraction of it.
- Its pricing page lists no client portal or proofing, so the client follows the job by email or in another tool.
What OIO does instead
OIO is project management for small studios. Each client job gets one project page with its tickets on a kanban or a timeline, the deadline, files, a whiteboard and team chat, and on paid plans recorded calls with transcripts. The budget, the hours and what has been paid sit on the same page.
A freelancer gets a link to a ticket. In a browser they read the brief and the feedback, upload the work and mark it done, with no account and no seat. The client gets a status link that shows where the project stands.
The quote and the invoice come from the same project, in any currency. Studio is $69 a month for five seats, and people who only view use no seat. The free plan covers 3 projects, no card.

When Function Point is the better fit
- If you want profitability reports by client, project and service, Function Point is the better fit. OIO shows each project's budget, hours and what has been paid, not profitability reports.
- If you forecast resources by role across a team, Function Point is the better fit. OIO has no resource planning.
- If you bill from timesheets and retainers, Function Point is the better fit. OIO has no time tracker.
- If your invoices have to flow into QuickBooks, Function Point is the better fit on its Optimize plan. OIO has no accounting integrations.

Questions
Is OIO a good Function Point alternative?
For a small studio that needs projects, tasks, files, freelancers and the client in one place, with quotes and invoices on the same project, yes. If you run on timesheets, resource forecasts and profitability reports, Function Point does that and OIO does not.
How long does it take to set up OIO?
Most studios set up the first project in about ten minutes. There is no onboarding fee and no demo call. Projects, clients and tickets can be imported from a CSV file.
Can freelancers work in OIO without a seat?
Yes. You send them a ticket link. They read the brief and the feedback, upload the work and mark it done in a browser, with no account. If they want to keep a history of their work, they can create a free account later.
