Quote template for motion designers

A motion quote should follow the production order: script and voiceover, styleframes, animatic, animation, delivery. Each stage gets approved before the next one starts. The most expensive thing in motion design is a script change after animation has begun, because the timing of every scene hangs on it.

Ask early about every output the client needs. Durations, aspect ratios, subtitled versions, platform specs. These are cheap to plan for at the start and slow to retrofit at the end, and they are the main reason a fixed-price motion job goes over.

What a motion designer's quote should spell out

Pricing styleframes and versions as a studio

Quote styleframes as a paid stage with a fixed number of directions, two or three is typical. A studio that pitches five directions for free has done a week of design before the job exists.

Price versions as a small table: per extra duration, per extra aspect ratio, per language. The client can then add a 9:16 cut in week three without a new quote, and everyone on the team knows each version is paid work, not a favour.

Questions motion designers ask

How much does a 60-second explainer animation cost?

It depends on style, complexity and how much design is needed before animation. Quote it in stages so the client sees where the money goes: script and storyboard, styleframes, animatic, animation per second, versions. That makes the total easier to adjust than a single number.

What is an animatic and why charge for it?

An animatic is a rough timed version of the piece, usually stills or simple motion cut to the voiceover. It is where timing and structure get approved. Charging for it makes clear it is a real stage, and approving it locks timing before the expensive part starts.

Should a motion design quote include music?

Say who chooses it and who pays the licence. A stock track for web use is cheap; the same track for broadcast or paid social may need a different licence. Bill it at cost and name the licence type.

Quote it, then invoice it, without retyping

In OIO a proposal belongs to its client and project. When it's accepted it becomes an invoice draft with the same lines, and the money view shows what is outstanding and what is paid. Free plan, no card.
