Quote template for data analysts
Start the quote from the business question, not the tools. "Why are customers in the second year cancelling" leads to a defined set of data sources, a defined analysis and a written answer. "Build us some dashboards" leads to an open-ended project that ends when the money runs out.
Then put the data risk in writing. You do not know how bad the data is until you have it, and you often do not get it when promised. Quote a fixed audit step first, say how long you expect cleaning to take based on what you have seen, and state that delays in access move the timeline and idle time is billable.

What a data analyst's quote should spell out
- The question the analysis answers and the decision it is meant to support.
- Data sources, who provides access and the date access is needed by.
- Deliverables: report, dashboard, model, notebooks, and in which tools.
- Assumptions about data quality, and how extra cleaning is priced.
- Tool, licence and compute costs, and whose accounts they run on.
- How ad-hoc requests after delivery are handled.
Questions data analysts ask
How do I quote a data project without seeing the data?
Quote a short paid audit first. Look at the real data, then quote the rest. If the client insists on one number, quote a range and say which assumptions about data quality would push it up.
Should a data analysis quote include the tools?
Name them, and say who pays. Running the work in the client's own BI tool and warehouse avoids licence transfers later and means the dashboards keep working after you leave.
How do I handle requests for extra cuts of the data?
Include a small number in the quote, then price the rest hourly or through a retainer. Write that rule down, because the requests start arriving the day the first chart is shown.
Quote it, then invoice it, without retyping
In OIO a proposal belongs to its client and project. When it's accepted it becomes an invoice draft with the same lines, and the money view shows what is outstanding and what is paid. Free plan, no card.
