Compress video

Make a screen recording, a walkthrough or a phone video small enough to email or post in a client's chat. The video is re-encoded to MP4 in your browser.

Your files never leave your computer. They are processed in this browser tab.

How to use it

  1. Drop the video, or tap the box to pick it. MP4, MOV and WebM work.
  2. Pick Light (up to 1080p), Balanced (720p) or Strong (480p).
  3. Press Compress and keep the tab open until it finishes, then download the MP4.

Free, no account. The page loads once, then the work happens in your browser. We don't receive the file, its name or anything in it.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is opened by this browser tab and processed on your computer. There is no upload step, so we never see the file or its name, and closing the tab throws the work away.

How long does it take?

Longer than a desktop app, because it runs inside the browser on one processor core. On a recent laptop expect roughly one to three minutes of work per minute of 1080p video, faster at Strong. Phones are slower. The first run also downloads the 10 MB video engine once.

Why is there a 400 MB limit?

The browser holds the whole video and the result in memory while it works. Above that size many computers, and most phones, run out.

Which setting should I pick?

Balanced for most screen recordings and walkthroughs. Light when the client needs to read small text in the video. Strong when the file just has to fit somewhere.

Can I close the tab while it works?

No. The work happens in the tab, so closing it or reloading stops it. Switching to another tab is fine.
